What is Tae Kwon Do:
Tae Kwon Do is a modern martial art, characterized by its fast, high kicks. Literally translated, it means “the art of hand and foot fighting. Tae Kwon Do has been an essential part of the Korean culture and is one of the more popular modern martial arts today. Tae Kwon Do consists of four disciplines which include Forms, Sparring, Self-Defense, and Board Breaking. Its main objective is to teach an appreciation for the sport and its art form. Tae Kwon Do is an excellent physical fitness program and helps develop mental discipline and a sense of responsibility for one self and others. Tae Kwon Do is a great exercise for children who are still growing as well as a good way for adults to increase their physical endurance. The movements in this sport require extensive physical and mental condition. Since there is kicking, punching and shouting involved, it's also a great way to relieve stress and get a great workout.
Hapkido:
Hapkido is a form of self-defense that employs joint locks, pressure points, throws, kicks, and other strikes. Students train to counter the techniques of other martial arts as well as common "unskilled" attacks. Hapkido contains both long and close range fighting techniques, and emphasizes circular motion, non-resisting movements, and control of the opponent. Students seek to gain advantage through footwork and body positioning to employ leverage, avoiding the use of strength against stength.
